Celebrating America 250: Drone Shows at the Florida State Fair

TAMPA, FLORIDA - This year at the Florida State Fair, thousands gathering in Tampa witnessed the historic “Spirit in the Sky: Illuminating 250 Years of Freedom,” a 500-drone show honoring America’s 250th anniversary.

For three consecutive nights, the team at Sky Elements produced the show, viewable from the fairgrounds. Our shows were choreographed alongside a narration telling the story of America, highlighting major milestones in the forming of our country.

The show begins with a message from Sunny, the official mascot of the Florida State Fair: “Tonight we gather under the open sky to celebrate a remarkable milestone, the 250th birthday of the United States of America. For two and a half centuries, our nation has been shaped by moments of courage, of vision, and of unity. And now we tell that story in lights, written across the stars. Let the celebration begin!”

The narration guided viewers through American history as the drone formations shifted to tell the story. A quill and parchment to represent the forming of the Declaration of Independence, the Liberty Bell, and a covered wagon representing the Oregon Trail kicked off the show.

The Civil War, the Statue of Liberty, and the Wright brothers' discovery of flight followed. Some of our favorite Fourth of July hits were included, like an astronaut on the Apollo missions to the moon and a bald eagle decorated in an American flag design. The show concluded with a ‘250’ birthday cake and a banner celebrating America 250.
