Redundancy
At Sky Elements, reliability isn’t just a promise—it’s our foundation. In the world of live entertainment, having a single plan or piece of equipment just doesn’t cut it. That’s why every Sky Elements show is backed by redundancy in all aspects of the performance — from extra drones and gear to certified drone pilots— all ensuring you don't have to worry about a thing at your event.
While your audience is captivated by the drone show in the night sky, you’ll have peace of mind knowing you made the right choice.
Reliable Backup Communication
At every Sky Elements Drone Show, we utilize two independent forms of medium-range and long-range communication over secure, encrypted networks. This dual-channel setup ensures our pilots maintain full command and control of the drones in any situation, delivering a seamless and safe performance every time.

Redundant Pilots
Two pilots are in control of every Sky Elements Drone Show, ensuring redundancy at every step of the process and eliminating any possible single point of failure. Our dual pilot system takes some of the best drone show pilots in the world and places them at the helm of your drone light show.

Geofencing
At Sky Elements, we implement an industry-leading triple-layered geo-fencing technology at every event. A geo-fence is a virtual boundary that automatically triggers safety commands when a drone crosses a predefined area. Geofences are essential in the safety of every Sky Elements drone light show.
To provide enhanced redundancy and real-time response, we deploy three geo-fences for every show. This triple-system design allows us to instantly detect and correct any drone that deviates from its programmed flight path, keeping all flight paths within our designated safety zones.
The Triple Fences
At Sky Elements, we use three types of geo-fences - a bubble fence, a soft fence, and a hard fence - to ensure our drone shows are both amazing and safe. These virtual boundaries help maintain precision and safety in every performance.
Our first line of defense from flight deviations is a bubble fence. If the drone deviates from its flight path by more than a few meters, our system will immediately land the drone.
When a drone strays from its flight path and encounters the outer soft fence, it automatically pauses and begins a controlled descent to land. This gentle landing procedure provides our trained pilots with sufficient time to evaluate, plan accordingly, and take any necessary steps to ensure the safe return of the drone.
The hard fence is a more stringent layer of protection in our geo-fence system used as a last line of defense. If a drone crosses this boundary, it disarms the motors, allowing the drone to free-fall inside the boundary of the safe zone.
The hard fence is a more stringent layer of protection in our geo-fence system. If a drone crosses this boundary, it receives an immediate command to shut off its motors. Though this emergency protocol is rarely triggered, it’s crucial for protecting pedestrians, moving vehicles, and other assets adjacent to the drone show area. By establishing the hard fence at a safe distance, we ensure that even the most unexpected deviations pose minimal risk—giving you peace of mind and a flawless Sky Elements performance.
Safety Zones
Everything that goes up must come down. While our drone shows are programmed for them to land back at their starting position we do plan for the possibility of an unscheduled landing by establishing safety zones where people or moving vehicles cannot be present.
Drone shows can not fly over:
- People
- Moving Vehicles
- and/or Critical Infrastructure
If you’re planning a drone show for your event, it’s crucial to consult a Sky Elements drone show expert ahead of time. They’ll help you determine the best location, set clear safety boundaries, and coordinate restricted-access areas for the performance.

When planning a drone light show, it's essential to consider both the audience perspective and the safety of bystanders near the performance area. At Sky Elements, we recommend placing your audience between 500 to 1,000 feet away from the drone launch zone for the best viewing experience. Similar to how a high-resolution LED screen has a “sweet spot” for viewing, drone shows also benefit from the right distance to create the illusion of resolution.
In addition to the audience position, it's crucial to factor in the safety of nearby pedestrians and bystanders. Both audiences and bystanders must remain outside the designated safety zones throughout the performance. Sky Elements will provide a detailed site plan and a bespoke safety plan, giving you complete confidence in every aspect of your drone show production.
Experience
At Sky Elements, our experience is truly unparalleled. We’ve flown thousands of drone light shows for clients around the globe—excluding the countless hours of test flights. With the most extensive hands-on experience in programming, piloting, and performing drone shows, Sky Elements stands as the world’s leading drone show provider.
While our experience speaks volumes - its important to learn from your experience and improve all aspects of drone show safety at with every show.
Through years of innovation and live execution, we’ve identified several key principles that are essential to delivering a safe, reliable, and breathtaking drone show.
Checklists
While it may seem simple on the surface, there’s a reason why surgeons, airline pilots, physicists, and professionals across high-stakes industries rely on checklists—they ensure accuracy, safety, and flawless execution. The same applies to drone light shows.
Contrary to the idea that drone show pilots simply press “start,” each show involves meticulous planning, technical setup, and step-by-step validation. At Sky Elements, our lead pilots and co-pilots carefully sign off on every stage of the process using a strict checklist protocol. This ensures that every step is verified and nothing is overlooked—delivering the safest, most reliable performance possible.

Pilot Training
At Sky Elements, we’re proud to have some of the most skilled drone show pilots in the world. But expertise alone isn’t enough—we believe in continuous learning and collaboration to stay ahead in a fast-evolving industry.
Our ever-expanding team of pilots actively trains together, sharing real-world insights, innovative solutions, and lessons learned from our range of events. This collaborative training environment allows every Sky Elements pilot to be prepped to handle new challenges, adapt to unique show conditions, and consistently deliver safe, high-performance drone light shows.
Through this evolving knowledge-sharing model, we ensure our entire team remains sharp, responsive, and ready to perform flawless shows anywhere you need us.
Are Drone Shows Safe?
