Sky Elements’ Explosive Return: The Largest Missouri Drone Show

INNSBROOK, MO – The best and brightest pyrotechnic companies in the United States battled it out at the annual SKY WARS: U.S. Invitational Fireworks Championship. Up to ten of the most talented pyrotechnic teams created concerts in the sky for a sold-out audience of 10,000. Sky Elements was overjoyed to return this year with three times the number of drones we flew at last year’s event, marking this the largest Missouri drone show ever flown. With the help of ground-based fireworks and gasoline fireballs, 600 drones took flight to create mythical creatures. However, we knew we had to start small to tease such a massive show.

Phoenix rising above Sky Wars 2023

The story unfolds with one tiny ember.

The drones rise slowly in their grid and twinkle orange and red like embers drifting in the wind. One ember floats down toward the ground and ignites a 350-foot fireball that reveals a phoenix rising from the ashes. The crowd erupts as the fire begins to dissipate. The embers fall to transition into a large firehound crafted from the inferno. The 400-foot-tall creature menacingly gazes over the audience before a wizard defeats it. The wizard blasts blue comets, defeating the firehound. The mighty magician casts a spell of protection on the audience from the creatures of the unknown before dissolving into the subsequent formation.

Fireworks and drones combined to complement each other throughout the show.

The drones float into place to create the winged horse Pegasus, a noble steed guaranteed to assist in the battle against evil. Glitter mines glisten as the wings flap and put out the fires on the townsfolk below, creating a cool breeze before things heat up again. A dancing mermaid forms before the audience, luring unsuspecting sailors to an untimely demise. Water begins to twirl around her as she disappears and becomes a dragon. The dragon takes a deep breath and blows fire on the unsuspecting audience below. The tiny drone fireball hits the ground and engulfs the townsfolk below.

Honoring Partnerships: MOPyro, Innsbrook, and Wags & Whiskers

The fireball dissipates to reveal the SKY WARS logo. We then nod to the Missouri Pyrotechnics Association with a flash of their MOPyro logo as the pyro half of the emblem burns orange and red. The drones then transition to the logo for the charity Wags & Whiskers, Sky Wars’ nonprofit partner. Proceeds from this year’s Sky Wars competition benefited the Wags & Whiskers animal shelter and its efforts to build a no-kill animal shelter in Warren County. We wrapped up the Sky Wars show with a mythical creature from the ocean’s depths. An unsuspecting ship floats along to the drone’s landing area before the Kraken’s tentacles grab the boat and pull her below the surface.

A thrilling collaboration between fireworks and drones

Sky Elements was delighted to have participated in this year’s Sky Wars competition. Having the opportunity to integrate drones and fireworks is something we genuinely cherish. Partnering with the most talented pyrotechnicians in the nation has been nothing short of amazing. “Our roots go back to the fireworks industry,” said Rick Boss, President of Sky Elements. “We always enjoy working hand-in-hand with folks in the fireworks industry. If you love fireworks, you have to be at Sky Wars!” The precision and execution it took to put on this massive show was no small feat, and Sky Elements couldn’t be happier to sponsor Sky Wars 2023.

Drone light shows in St. Louis, Missouri

Sky Elements is no stranger to Missouri and the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Our team flew weekly drone shows at Grant’s Farm from Memorial Day to Labor Day, mesmerizing audiences all summer long. After the 600-drone Sky Wars drone show, Sky Elements has proven to be Missouri’s leading drone show provider. With a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what drone technology can achieve, Sky Elements has taken the St. Louis area by storm. The Grant’s Farm drone shows displayed a captivating narrative that can come from a show with a historic backdrop. On the other hand, the Sky Wars drone show demonstrated Sky Elements’ capabilities by implementing pyrotechnics with drone displays, taking a leap into the future of what is possible in the drone light show space.
