We were honored to be able to part of the celebration of the 49th anniversary of the Nation of the Bahamas’ independence!
This show consisted of 100 drones and included formations representing unique icons for the Bahamas. The Bahamian flag, a pink flamingo lifting its leg, a blue marlin swimming, and even a beating heart pulsing the colors of the flag.
The Show
This show consisted of 100 drones flying in tight, choreographed formations built specifically for The Bahamas. Rather than pull from a generic library of shapes, we designed every animation around icons that Bahamians would recognize immediately.
The show opened with the Bahamian flag: aquamarine, gold, and black stretched across the night sky, the colors holding steady as the formation came into focus. From there, a pink flamingo took shape and lifted its leg, the national bird striking its signature pose. A blue marlin followed, swimming across the sky in a slow, sweeping arc. The finale was a beating heart, pulsing through the colors of the flag in time with the music.
Each transition was timed so the crowd could take in one image before the drones flowed into the next. The formations weren't static pictures. The flamingo moved, the marlin swam, and the heart beat, which is what turns a drone display into something people talk about for weeks afterward.
Designing for a Nation
A show like this carries more weight than a typical corporate event. The flag has to be exactly right. The animals have to read clearly from the ground. The colors have to match. Our design team worked through every frame to make sure the images honored the country rather than approximating it.
That care matters. When a formation represents a national symbol, the audience knows instantly whether it was done well. We wanted every person watching to feel that the show was made for them, because it was.
A Little History
The Commonwealth of The Bahamas gained its independence in July of 1973, ending more than 300 years of British rule while remaining a member of the Commonwealth. The first Independence Day celebration culminated at midnight, when the Union Jack was lowered and the new Bahamian flag was raised for the first time. Every July since, the country has marked the occasion with fireworks, music, Junkanoo parades, and gatherings across the islands.
Being invited to add drones to a tradition that goes back nearly five decades is not something we take lightly.
Our Time in The Bahamas
Beyond the show itself, our team had a blast visiting the country and getting to know the wonderful people who live there. From the crews who helped us set up to the families who stopped to ask what we were doing, the hospitality was unforgettable. Drone light shows are our job, but moments like this remind us why we do it.
